Brick giant slumber

it’s been heavy within these four walls

a broken switch casting

perennial darkness on these millenial bridges.

there’s a new stride

on these concrete puzzles

as the timid spring air

bursts in unison with starving foxes

grabbing each forgotten morsel

of human creation.

by the overground stop

not even the exhaust engines

can pause the sacred held breath,

loud silence

of a brick giant slumber.

to belong somewhere

is a privileged concept

but as the velvet blankets

fall upon the girl’s shoulders

the luminous eyes

blink in the distance

a welcomed salute

a right to step onto

the same four walls

of millions of other

dreams and sorrows,

losses and heartbreaks,

joy and pride,

peace and quiet.
